Known as “The Happiest place on Earth” Walt Disney World in Orlando Florida is the world’s largest and most visited attraction. Disney World consists of four themed parks that each have their own themed lands. Each of the parks is unique and presents a different experience. Disney World opened in 1971 with the original Magic Kingdom. It was based on the Anaheim, California park - Disneyland. Disney World is much larger than Disneyland in California. In fact, it has been said that Disneyland could be set in the parking lot of Disney World. When visiting you should allow several days to explore all it has to offer; it is a delightful experience for any age.

Magic Kingdom consists of Fantasyland, Adventureland, Tomorrowland, Frontierland and Main Street U.S.A. The themed rides range from riding a train or horse-drawn trolley to a roller coaster built inside a building and propelling the riders along in the dark. The park has three mountains – Space Mountain, Splash Mountain, and Thunder Mountain.

EPCOT – This is an acronym for Environmental Prototype Community of Tomorrow. This park was Disney’s vision for the future. It opened in 1982 and has twice the area of the Magic Kingdom. It is made up of two differing parts – World Showcase and Future World. In Future World, you can find innovations in the science industry using things such as robots. In the World Showcase, there are eleven areas around the Seven Seas lagoon displaying different countries, their culture and foods.

Disney’s Hollywood Studios (originally MGM Studios) – Opened in 1989, the studio is themed around movies and show business. It is divided into six areas – Hollywood Boulevard, Echo Lake, Streets of America, Animation Courtyard, Pixar Place and Sunset Boulevard. Some of the thrilling rides available are the famous “Tower of Terror” based on the TV show Twilight Zone or the equally thrilling Rock’n’Roller Coaster featuring Aerosmith.

Animal Kingdom – Opened in 1998, it is the largest of all the Disney parks covering 500 acres. Eight areas make up the park – Oasis, Discovery Island, Camp Minnie-Mickey, Africa, Asia, Rafiki’s Planet Watch, Dinoland U.S.A. If you enjoy thrill rides, Animal Kingdom has one of the best, called Expedition: Everest. Two more areas are planned for the future – Avatar Land that will begin building in 2013 and Beastly Kingdom based on beasts of fantasy. Animal Kingdom is different from any of the other parks because it presents live animals.
