The Children’s Museum in Boston offers kids and adults 100 years of experience creating a fun learning environment that actually teaches what kids want to learn.
When a group of science teachers decided to create an interesting learning environment in 1913 they gave birth to one of the most well-known Children Museums in the USA. In fact, the Boston Children’s Museum recently was awarded the prestigious National Medal for Museum and Library Service.
The Children’s Museum has created an atmosphere for learning that is accessible to everyone, including the physically challenged. All exhibit areas are completely accessible by wheelchair. The tours are offered in American Sign Language on a special calendar of dates and times that can be accessed on the official website. At other times assistive listening devices are available upon request.
The Museum holds a collection of 50,000 items to display for various programs and exhibits. The educational focus is on science, cultures, health and wellness, literacy and math. Popular exhibits include Bubbles, Raceways, and Arthur’s World. Did you know that the first hands-on exhibit was at the Boston Children’s Museum? It was called “What’s Inside?” It was created in 1960.
It is open Saturday-Thursday 1-5; Fridays 10-9. They are closed for Thanksgiving and Christmas Day, but they are open until 3 pm Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve. It opens at Noon on New Year’s Day. Tickets for Adults and kids ages 1-15 are $14; ages 0 to 12 months are free. Members are also free. Every Friday they have Target Fridays where the Tickets are only $1 from 5 to 9 pm.
Parents who are thinking of sending their kids to the museum for the day should know that kids under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult. Also, for adults without kids, for safety reasons, they must leave a government issue with photo at the front desk.
