The name “East Lake” came from the place where the East Lake Golf Club is situated. The Golf Club is in the neighborhood of East Lake in the city of Atlanta. This golf club serves as a home to the legendary golfer named Bobby Jones who was recognized as the best golfer in his time. The very first tournament was hosted by the golf course in the year 1907. Since from the time that it was established and it was opened to all individuals, the East Lake Golf Club became popular for golfers in and around the city of Atlanta. The tournament was named Southern Amateur and it was won by a man named Wilson Whitney. The second course was opened by Tom Bendelow in the year 1908 just before the course was completed.
